Several weeks ago I recorded a song at Danny Wolf's studio along with Ben Kogan, Amy Vachal, and Guy Prandstatter. Listen to the recording while you read the rest: [audio:Home.mp3|titles=Home]
"Home" Words by Carlos Velazquez, Ryleigh Jara Scheinthal, and Guy Prandstatter Music by Guy Prandstatter Amy Vachal (vocals), Danny Wolf (drums), Ben Kogan (bass, keyboards), Cameron Mizell (acoustic & electric guitars, mandolin) Produced by Guy Prandstatter & Stellar Ego; Recorded, mixed and mastered by Danny Wolf at ManEatWolf Studios in Brooklyn, NY.
Last February, Stellar Ego (Guy, Ben, Danny, and I) played a CD release show for our new album, Fear of Flying. After Stellar Ego, Amy Vachal performed with her band. Carlos Velazquez was at the show hearing the bands for the first time.
After the show, Carlos contacted Guy to discuss a some lyrics he'd been writing with a homeless girl he'd been trying to help get back on her feet. Guy helped finish the song, penning the music and chorus lyric. Then Carlos hired all of us in Stellar Ego to record it with Amy on vocals.
The song speaks for itself, in my opinion, and knowing the circumstances of the people who wrote it makes it more interesting. Music is about healing, and this is exactly that type of song.
Even though Guy didn't perform on this particular recording (though we did record another version with him singing), he's really responsible for pulling this all together. Guy's past, and the way he conducts himself today through philanthropy and humanitarian work, creates a very positive, creative energy. I think there are parallels between this song and his own experiences that elevated this session to something more than just another recording gig.
As of now, this song hasn't been released. I'll post a link as soon as that happens.
Thanks for listening!
