[dropcaps_dark] I [/dropcaps_dark] am very pleased to announce that I've joined the PHAME Academy of Fine Arts Artistic Advisory Board. PHAME, which stands for Pacific Honored Artists, Musicians and Entertainers, is a fine and performing arts organization serving adults with developmental disabilities in the Portland, Oregon region. Here is a great video that summarizes the incredible year they had in 2012.

PHAME's Music Director, Matthew Gailey, is a longtime friend. I met Matthew, a jazz vocalist, singer/songwriter, and educator, years ago at Indiana University. He was one of the first people I met in the music building, and we quickly began playing duets around town. Earlier this year Matthew released his debut EP, Beast in Babylon.
We've stayed in touch despite ending up on opposite coasts, and I was thrilled to hear about the work Matthew has been doing with PHAME, including concerts, musicals, and simply the education and expression taking place at the academy. One of their recent developments is an iPad Music Lab where students can write music. Visit the PHAME Soundcloud page to hear some examples of the students' music.
