I picked up this week's lick from my friend Tyler Martin, a guitarist in Albuquerque, NM. It's uses the Mixolydian scale with an additional b3 for a bluesy element. I really dig the well placed 1/2 step bends on the 13th (G#) up to the 7th (A), and the b3rd (D) up to the major 3rd (D#). You can also bend the b3 up a semitone for a pitch that's not quite a major or minor 3rd--a common bend in blues music. This lick kind of reminds me of something John Scofield might play, so naturally I had to steal it from Tyler.
