"The Run-Off Groove" (#136) by John Book for Music For America (musicforamerica.org)
Guitarist Cameron Mizell came out with his debut album two years ago, and at the beginning of the new year he will be dropping his second release, an EP titled The EPic Of Chester Bustamante, a very good EP featuring his jazzy funk. His style of playing is up there with some of the best electric jazz/funk guitarists around, and along with Hammond B-3 master Brad Whiteley and drummer Mike Fortune, they get into the kind of spaces that fans of instrumental jazz will love. "Thursdays" reminds me of going into that smoky club where the only smells in the vicinity are weed, sweat, and that wet drippy stuff that lets you know life is good. Fans of Soulive will enjoy the music on this forthcoming EP (available through iTunes).
